A six turbine shotblaster, 'Big Betsy' represents a million pound investment and has revolutionized the speed at which we can shotblast and prime steel, providing a better, faster service.

In 15-20 minutes we can process a 15 metre beam that is fully shotblasted, painted and dried.

This six turbine blasting machine accomplishes this as the steel is preheated to 45°C to dry off and remove any moisture, dry oxide and rust scale. The material is then blasted to a SA 2½ grade surface finish before entering the painting booth.

Four automated spray guns are used for paint spraying, sensors are used to eliminate spraying from one or both flanges of a beam as required.

The steel is finished with a primer coat of approx. 25 microns of dry film which acts as a transit primer. We offer a choice of red or grey paint.
